About

Christine Johnson-Duell writes (and does a few other things).

I am a writer; I write poems, some of which have appeared in local and national journals in the US and op-eds I wrote have appeared in three major US newspapers.

By day, I am a fundraising consultant. Since the start of my career in philanthropy, a decade ago, I have been responsible for raising more than $20M for arts and culture organizations as a staff member and consultant. My experience includes a capital campaign, operational changes, and, most importantly, building relationships.

Since 1995, I have edited books, articles, poems, and online content. I’ve created style guides, websites, and editorial seminars.

I love to cook and I am obsessive about eating local, seasonal food. I knit, mainly sweaters, and sew baby quilts. I’ve attended more than 100 opera performances and eagerly look forward to the next 100.

I am the mother of a grown-up daughter and the widow of a man I miss every day.

I was born in Boston, raised in its suburbs, and, fleetingly, in Palo Alto. After 28 years in Seattle and 17 months in Louisville (which collided with the COVID-19 pandemic), I returned to my beloved New England. I live on Cape Cod, on the unceded Native lands of the Nauset band of the Wompanoag Nation, People of the First Light.

Read some of my writing and stay tuned for my writing project, Eat Like a Widow.
